Tiree Lodge Hotel

Explore Tiree on foot or on wheels

Tiree can easily be explored on foot or by car or bicycle at any time of the year. Renowned as one of the sunniest places in the UK and with the influence of The Gulf Stream, the island is rarely affected by frost and snow. It is possible to have all four seasons in one day even in summer but also some amazing calm balmy days in winter –even warm enough to have a picnic! Features with curious names such as Happy Valley, The Ringing Stone and The Maze may entice the adventurous to seek out those magical places.

So -step back in time and explore Tiree’s prehistory, from standing stones and circles, to crannogs (dwellings), brochs (towers) and duns (forts). Explore Tiree’s Gaelic heritage in the island’s community archive, Scarnish’s An Iodhlann and find out more at Sandaig’s Island Life Museum. Escape along the north coast, west of Vaul, to strike Clack a’Choire (Ringing Stone) and catch its metallic ringing, or visit Hynish’s exhibition about Skerryvore Lighthouse, 17km south-west of Tiree, built by Robert Louis Stevenson’s uncle, Alan.
