Amazing wild life watching on the Isle of Tiree
The Wildlife on Tiree, as on all other Scottish Hebridean Islands, is unique. With a flat, windblown landscape and no trees, it limits the places for creatures to shelter. There are few predators - no foxes, rabbits, or snakes so the lively boxing hares have the island pretty much to themselves.
You can amble along deserted beaches, or you can stravaig the wilder shores of the western part of the island and are guaranteed to something of interest. You can train your binoculars on little flocks of busy waders, pods of arching porpoises or perhaps some big basking sharks sifting the rich Atlantic plankton through their gigantic jaws. If you are in the right place at the right time you might even catch a glimpse of our native otters or our visiting corncrakes.
